Sleeping in a School Bus – Skoolie Airbnb near Spokane, Washington

SPOKANE, WA

HEY STRANGERS!

Are you ready for a unique adventure that combines the charm of a rustic farm with the comforts of home? Look no further than the Skoolie, a converted school bus nestled near Spokane, Washington. In September, we embarked on an unforgettable journey and stayed in this quirky Airbnb accommodation that offered a taste of rural life just minutes away from the airport and downtown Spokane.

All Aboard the Skoolie!

As we pulled up to our destination, we were greeted by the sight of a vibrant blue school bus. But this wasn’t your average school bus; it had been transformed into a cozy and inviting retreat. The Skoolie, once a full-time residence, has been thoughtfully renovated to provide a one-of-a-kind lodging experience.

The interior of the Skoolie is warm and welcoming, with rustic wooden touches throughout. The space is cleverly designed to maximize comfort. The king-sized bed in the back of the bus promises a restful night’s sleep, while twin bunk beds and a queen bed created by joining two sofas offer plenty of space for a small family or group of friends. No need to worry about the weather – the bus is equipped with a wood-burning stove for the chilly winter nights and air conditioning for those scorching summer days.

One unique feature of the Skoolie is the bathroom situation. The bus comes with a full bathroom, but with a twist: it features a composting toilet. Don’t let this deter you, though! The hosts have taken care of your comfort by providing access to a separate mudroom with a traditional full bathroom. You have the option to choose the bathroom experience that suits you best.

A Peaceful Haven on a Hobby Farm

The Skoolie is perched on a 3-acre property located on a tranquil road just outside Spokane’s city limits. If you think staying on a hobby farm sounds like a dream come true, you’re in for a treat. The property is home to a delightful assortment of animals, including donkeys, alpacas, goats, and sheep. You can spend your mornings sipping coffee on the porch while watching these friendly creatures graze nearby. It’s a slice of rural heaven that’s perfect for unwinding and disconnecting from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

The host graciously invited us to pet and feed these lovely animals. The alpacas were an absolute highlight of our stay. The two latest additions to the alpaca family were extremely friendly and gave off small hmm noises when they needed some attention.

Convenient Location

Despite its serene farm setting, the Skoolie is surprisingly well-connected. It’s just a 10-minute drive to downtown Spokane, making it an ideal base for exploring the city’s vibrant culture and dining scene. If you need to catch a flight, the airport is also just a short 10-minute drive away. For those who require medical attention, the local hospitals are a mere 15 minutes away. This makes the Skoolie an excellent choice for a wide range of travelers, from tourists to business travelers and medical professionals.

We decided to head into Downtown Spokane for dinner and the short drive was a breeze. The short journey down the highway made it fast and simple to find ourselves in the heart of the city in no time. Driving back in the dark was also relatively easy, as long as you follow your navigation. It was also easy to get to a gas station, other food locations and importantly for us, Starbucks.

Flexible and Self-Sufficient

Worried about check-in? Don’t be. The Skoolie offers flexible self-check-in, so you can arrive at your leisure. The bus is entirely at your disposal, and you can make yourself at home without any hassle. If you prefer a more conventional bathroom experience, the hosts have you covered. Just let them know, and they’ll provide details about the separate mudroom bathroom before your check-in. Parking is directly behind the bus, mere steps from Skoolie’s front door.

We did meet Scott, the host, as we arrived. He was finishing off setting up the bus. He was more than happy to show us around, answer any questions we had and introduced us to their farmyard friends.

In Conclusion

Our stay in Skoolie near Spokane was nothing short of magical. The combination of a unique living space, the charm of a hobby farm, and the convenience of being close to the city created an experience we won’t soon forget. Whether you’re looking for a romantic getaway, a family adventure, or a peaceful escape, the Skoolie offers something special for every traveler. Scott and Erika were excellent hosts. We met Scott upon our arrival and he gladly showed us around, introduced us to their animals and made up the bed as we took in the sights of the property.

So, why not ride the Skoolie wave and experience the best of both worlds: rustic charm and modern comforts? Your next memorable adventure awaits in this converted school bus, and you won’t want to miss it!
