Spring in kelowna
HEY STRANGERS!
Kelowna, British Columbia
The city of Kelowna is well-known for its distinct 4 seasons. There are a lot of exciting activities and locations to visit during a blossoming spring day in Kelowna and here are just a few of our favourites…

John’s Family Nature Conservancy
Located in Kettle Valley, John’s Family Nature Conservancy offers visitors a great opportunity for wildlife spotting, as well as amazing views of Lake Okanagan. The massive regional park spans across over 400 hectares in south Kelowna. There is a range of easy to moderate hiking trails, making this the perfect outdoor activity for the whole family! Please note that some areas of the park are closed off to the public for wildlife conservation, so be sure to stick to the designated trails and paths. The park is open from dusk ’til dawn daily, meaning that the hours shift seasonally so double check the website here for the exact hours for your visit!

Lakeshore Wine Route
From mid-April to late-May, the Okanagan Valley blossoms and blooms as the Vineyards and Orchards come back to life after the cold of winter! Take a scenic drive along the Lakeshore Wine Route to take in the fresh sights. Whilst there, be sure to stop at Paynter’s Fruit Market to admire the blossoms up-close!
Vineyards to visit:
- Sperling Vineyard
The vineyards of the Sperling family were planted in 1925 in the limestone rich shores of East Kelowna. As of 2017 the vineyard is certified organic, too! - Tantalus Vineyard
Tantalus was established in 2004, however, the vineyards themselves date back to 1927 when they were first planted by JW Hughes, an acclaimed horticulturist at the time. Nowadays, you can enjoy the single-vineyard wines, surrounded by art created by some of Canada’s most distinguished artists. - Summerhill Pyramid Winery
Summerhill pride themselves on being the only Demeter certified biodynamic vineyard in British Columbia, and rightly so! The natural springs that emerge on the property create a sanctuary for a variety of species, and the flowering plants that are allowed to bloom between the vines make homes for beneficial insects, like ladybugs! All of this combined help improve soil life and water retention, creating delicious, quality grapes! - Cedar Creek Estate Winery
Cedar Creek offers its guests stunning views of Lake Okanagan whilst the winery itself sits nestled into the northern hills of the valley. The cool climate of the valley gives the grapes time to develop their flavours slowly, making divine cool-climate wines!
Downtown Kelowna
In the downtown district you can visit a museum, browse independent boutiques, enjoy a seasonal, local beer, people watch as the town begins to liven up again in one of the many cozy cafes, then finish the day by refueling with a delicious farm-to-table meal. If the suns shining, why not take a delightful stroll down the lakefront boardwalk?
Take a Hike
The hiking trails of Kelowna are typically clear of snow by early April, so take a hike up Knox Mountain, or Mount Boucherie, an extinct volcano located in West Kelowna!
Other great places to hike this Spring in Kelowna are:
- Rose Valley
Located in West Kelowna and with over 40km of trail networks Rose Valley is perfect for any skillset, just be sure to pack a love of adventure! In the spring time the hikes are mostly dry, with very little mud! The best part is that these trails are all dog friendly, on leash! - Pincushion
A hop, skip and jump over to Peachland, the Pincushion trail can take between 1-2 hours to complete – which is time well spent when you get to enjoy the Okanagan views from the summit! - Stephens Coyote Ridge
Located in Glenmore, Kelowna, these hiking loops offer beautiful views along the ridge-lines. Be sure to bring a rain jacket, the trails aren’t very well covered but are generally mud-free! - Kalamoir Ridge
Heading back to West Kelowna, Kalamoir Ridge follows the lake shore before popping up into the alpine forest! The lower trail is well covered by the forest, making it a perfect spot to watch those spring-time rain storms roll in. Beware though, the upper trail is pretty exposed to the elements, or is it just the perfect place to dance in the rain?
Get Swinging!
The majority of the Okanagan’s 19 golf courses are open by mid-April. The mild Spring temperatures and longer days mean that there’s no bad time to tee off!
The best golf courses in Kelowna:
- Kelowna Springs Golf Club
Kelowna’s favourite golf club! This 18-hole course sits amongst seven spring-fed lakes, making for a stunning day on the green! - Black Mountain Golf Club
Black Mountain Golf Club is a multi-generational, master-planned golf facility offering a beautiful backdrop of the land’s natural Okanagan scenery, sculpted into the 6,400 yard course. - Mission Creek Golf Club
Golfers can enjoy the natural wildlife that inhabits this 3rd-generation family run golf course. Marvel as the course bends and winds through willows, ponds and cottonwoods. - Sunset Ranch Golf & Country Club
This course is often considered to be one of the best of the Okanagan, not just Kelowna! The ranch’s natural beauty is second to none, giving golfers exceptional conditions across the rolling hills of the stunning vistas.
